October 21, 2023 - The CPSU Graduate School once again celebrates the successful completion of another batch of students in the Master’s and Doctorate degrees through a Commencement Exercises marking a momentous occasion for the graduating class of 2023. The event, themed “Achieving Quality of Life with Professional Excellence,” took place at the Zaycoland Resort and Hotel, Kabankalan City.
The morning activity was a Baccalaureate Mass held at the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Kabankalan City, as celebrated by Most Rev. Bishop Louie Galbines, together with Rev. Fr. Jose Severino Nacional III, Rev. Fr. Richard Lachica, and Rev. Fr. Romeo Tayco.
The graduation ceremony, which was held in the afternoon, commenced with the processional as graduates, donned in their academic regalia, walked on the red carpet accompanied by their families to celebrate their momentous achievement in professional growth.
Dr. Fernando Abello, VP for Academic Affairs, delivered the welcoming address, congratulating the graduates for their hard work, dedication, and perseverance throughout their academic journey. VP Abello also highlighted the significant contributions of the faculty and staff in guiding and mentoring the students, acknowledging the collaborative effort that led to their success.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Raul Alvarez, Jr. CESO III, the Regional Director IV of CHED Regional Office VI. Dr. Alvarez, shared inspiring insights on the challenges and opportunities awaiting the graduates in the real world, emphasizing the importance of lifelong learning and adaptability in the rapidly changing global landscape. He likewise reminded everyone that in the practice of their respective profession, they must work with integrity, dignity, and ethics. Along with these values, they must be driven with humility and compassion to help the underserved and to never forget the mighty Creator.
During the ceremony, the awarding of plaque of appreciation was also given to various individuals and offices who were contributory to the success of the event especially to the event logistics team of the Graduate School headed by its dean, Dr. Riza Stephanie Abada-Alfaras.
With a total of 161 graduates, the highlight of the event was the conferring of their degrees by the University President, Dr. Aladino Moraca, as their tassel-turning moment, signifying the transition from candidates to graduates. This was followed by the ceremonial Investiture of Hoods, and distribution of diplomas as facilitated by Sir Rhonelo Lobrique, University Registrar, where graduates walked across the stage, officially marking the attainment of their educational titles as full-fledged Masters and Doctors of their respective disciplines.
Hon. Mercedes Alvarez, Congresswoman of the 6th District of Negros Occidental, also delivered her inspirational message to the graduates on their resounding success. Cong. Alvarez stated how their completion symbolized their hard work and dedication. She likewise emphasized how the event served as a reminder that education is a powerful tool in facing the boundless possibilities for these newly minted alumni.
With caps in the air and hearts full of hope, the Graduate School Class of 2023 left the venue with a sense of accomplishment, prepared to face the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
Also present to witness the event were the members of the CPSU Board of Regents (BOR), Quality Assurance Director, Program Coordinators, and Graduate School instructors, among others.
