Cauayan Campus
Campus Overview:
The Central Philippines State University (CPSU)-Cauayan Campus was established through the efforts of Dr. Marcelino A. Dechavez, former College President, Honorable Jerry M. Tabujara, former Mayor of Cauayan, and Honorable Genaro M. Alvarez, Jr., Congressman of the sixth District of the province. Its establishment was formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement and was operationalized under the Local Government Code (R.A. 7160) and the Education Code of 1982 (Batas Pambansa Blg. 232). The process of establishing the campus was initiated with a request from the Sangguniang Bayan of Cauayan, Negros Occidental, as per Resolution No. 98-109 dated October 29, 1998. This was endorsed to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and was approved by Dr. Angel C. Alcala, CHED Chairman. House Bill No. 1343, authored by Congressman Alvarez, sought to recognize NOAC Cauayan Campus as one of three planned extension campuses. CPSU-Cauayan Campus began operations on June 8, 1999, initially offering two programs: Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (BSA) and Diploma in Agricultural Technology (DAT), a ladderized. Over the years, some of the programs need to be closed and changed to new courses. In 2004, the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) program was introduced. Additional programs followed, including Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business (BSAB) in 2009 and Bachelor in Animal Science (BAS) major in Animal Production in 2008, though the BAS program was discontinued in 2020. Further curricular expansions took place in 2008 with the introduction of the Bachelor in Secondary Education (BSED) major in Mathematics and the Bachelor of Science in Applied Statistics (BSAS). To meet community demands, the Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Biological Science was introduced in 2015 but was discontinued in 2020 due to curriculum changes. It was replaced by the Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Science in 2018, which continues to be offered. The CPSU-Cauayan Campus received Level II Accreditation from the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines, Inc. (AACCUP) through Board Resolution No. 64, series 2020, recognizing its BEED, BSED majors in Mathematics and Science, and BSAB programs. The campus also secured a Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) for BSED and BEED for Academic Year 2018-2019, issued in Iloilo City on November 9, 2018. Furthermore, the campus obtained ISO certification with Certificate Registration No. 01 100 1834939/06. In recognition of its contributions to agriculture and community service, the CPSU-Cauayan Campus has received various awards. It was acknowledged for its role in promoting Agri-Tourism, supporting farmers, and advancing the Municipality’s tourism industry. The campus was also named an “Outstanding Academe on Multiplier Farm Adoption & Sustainability” during the 2021 Provincial Veterinarian’s Award. In 2022, it was conferred as one of the “Outstanding Municipal Functionaries” for its exceptional performance in delivering programs aligned with the municipality’s development initiatives, particularly the CHANGE Plus T program. The university’s strategic location contributes to its increasing popularity. It is near four major feeder schools: St. Columban’s Academy (1 km away), Cauayan National High School (190 meters away), Guiljungan National High School (6.3 km away), and Tuyom National High School (9.1 km away). This proximity has led to a rise in student enrollment. With the continued support of parents, non-government organizations, and government agencies at various levels, CPSU-Cauayan Campus remains committed to quality education and institutional excellence. The institution aims to equip its graduates with essential knowledge, skills, and values to enhance their employability and global competitiveness in sustainable agriculture and related fields. By doing so, the university seeks to contribute to economic growth and stability in rural areas. The campus also serves a crucial role in disaster response, functioning as an evacuation center during natural calamities such as typhoons and earthquakes. Its location in the upper portion of
the municipality minimizes flood risks, and it is situated 12 km away from the nearest fault line, ensuring safety for evacuees. CPSU-Cauayan Campus remains steadfast in its mission to be a beacon of learning and hope for students from Cauayan and surrounding areas. Through continuous development in instruction, research, production, and extension services, the university upholds its commitment to academic excellence and community engagement.
