Campus Overview:
Central Philippines State University Hinigaran Campus is a public educational institution located in Barangay Gargato, in the municipality of Hinigaran. It is strategically located along the highway, 52 kilometers south of the province of Negros Occidental, situated in more than 1.2 hectares land donated by the Local Government Unit of the municipality with a population of 1082 based on recent records. It is one of the external campuses under the Central Philippines State University system. The campus was established with the aim to extend the lifted expertise of the university to the other parts of the province. The Central Philippines State University Hinigaran Campus has four colleges with five undergraduate programs of Elementary and Secondary Education, Information Technology, Agricultural Business and Hotel Management. Like its sister schools, the campus is duly recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).Among the resolutions were: resolution authorizing Mayor Hermilo L. Aguilar to sign the Memorandum of Agreement with CPSU, resolution donating a parcel of land to CPSU for its school site and farm laboratory, and resolution appropriating seven (7) million pesos for the construction of a school building. Resolution No. 252 Series of 2009, A resolution authorizing the municipal mayor Hermilo l. Aguilar to sign the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the municipality of Hinigaran and the Negros State College of Agriculture (NSCA). Thus, Resolution No. 072 Series Of 2010, Resolution donating twenty thousand (20,000) sq. meters of the municipal property located in Hda. Silverio, Barangay Nanunga to Negros State College of Agriculture (NSCA) for their demo farm or farm laboratory and further authorizing mayor Hermilo l. Aguilar to sign documents pertinent thereto.It had been a strong desire of the local officials of Hinigaran to have a tertiary school in the municipality. This is because the municipality in the 1990โs had seven (7) secondary schools that produced over a thousand graduates every year. With no school offering tertiary education, the municipality had a high incident of out-of-school youths and a workforce of high school graduates.By the year 2000, several attempts were made by the local officials to invite colleges and universities to put up their school in Hinigaran but of no avail.In 2010, the then Vice Governor of Negros Occidental, Genaro Alvarez, visited the town and learned about the concern regarding education, invited the former Negros State College of Agriculture (NSCA) now Central Philippines State University (CPSU) former President Freddie C. Maningo for a dialogue with the Municipal Mayor Hermilo L. Aguilar and Vice Mayor Jose Nadie P. Arceo. The purpose of which was the establishment of CPSU Hinigaran. Having this favorable opportunity, the Local Government Unit of Hinigaran positively acted by approving several resolutions and enacted ordinances, all geared to the establishment of CPSU HInigaran Campus.By 2011, CPSU Hinigaran Campus opened and offered several Curricular Programs. Consequently, big number of enrollees were recorded and the enrollment increases every year. It should be noted that Section 447 of RA 7160 Mandates the LGU to provide and establish post-secondary school with the approval of the Department of Education.By School Year 2015-2016, the first batch of graduates received their diploma.
