Central Philippines State University | Main Campus – delegates representing the different Units of the main and extension campuses joined in the opening parade from the main gate going to the CPSU Sports Field for the formal opening of the weeklong intramural event as part of the 77th foundation celebration of the University last October 3, 2023.
Wearing their respective colors and banners with pride and might, the cheers and hoots of every participant resounded ecstatically on the playing field as each delegation team was recognized, signaling their excitement and enthusiasm for the much-awaited occasion.
Dr. Fernando D. Abello, Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA), opened the event with notable remarks, reminding everyone to play the game with sportsmanship and respect. He also affirmed the importance of playing with competitiveness but with enjoyment in the heart.
Hon. Roger Regalia, Sanggunian Panglungsod Member of the City of Kabankalan, and the invited keynote speaker of the event amplified in his talk the nuances of sports as a platform to foster camaraderie, develop friendship, and show the essence of true sportsmanship. He further lauded CPSU for producing notable individuals who continuously create history in various fields locally and globally, making not just the University proud but the Negrenses, as a whole.
As emblems in the spirit of sportsmanship, Cenphilian athletes and officials took their oaths led by Ms. Maybelline Perolino, Sepak Takraw player; and the Officials' oaths led by Ms. Emee G. Dalida, COTED faculty. This signaled their vow to finish their respective sports with determination, sportsmanship, and respect at their core as they bring glory to their respective units. Likewise, for the officials as they strive to keep their goal of ensuring equality, fairness, integrity, and honesty in the conduct of all the events throughout the competition.
The symbolic Raising of Banners was done by the representatives per unit, while the Lighting of the Urn was led by Mr. Jundy Layao, Volleyball Men Bronze medalist, along with the four other RSCUAA athletes who represented CPSU at the Carlos Hilado Memorial State College regional competition last September of this year. Together, they carried the torch symbolizing the flame of unity and celebrating a common message of sportsmanship, athletic superiority and artistic achievements.
The event concluded with Dr. Abello officially declaring open the 2023 Intramurals Meet.
