Driven with the goal of strengthening the advocacy and practice of organic agriculture, food sufficiency and the promotion of consumer health and environmental protection in Asia, the Municipality of Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte and the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) Organics Asia co-organized the recently concluded 9th Asian Local Governments on Organic Agriculture (ALGOA) & 4th Global Alliance for Organic Districts (GAOD) Summits and the 6th Organic Asia Congress last June 4-10, 2023 at Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte, Philippines.
With more than 400 foreign delegates and more than one thousand local participants, various agencies and organizations were identified to share winning practices that are possible for replication by other partner colleges, universities, agencies, and LGUs.
Trudging on the same vision, CPSU through Dr. Joean Mae Escober, director for International Affairs and CPSU-Murcia extension class coordinator, was identified as one of the speakers during the said event.
Dr. Escober’s talk focused on the best practices of CPSU-Murcia in terms of Organic Agriculture and food security that they also share to their students and the local farmers to help increase their production.
“The impact we create to our students as they are taught to grow and produce their own food is truly transformational. Being children of farmers, we help them secure their food, hence, minimizing their absences. This is how we truly create an impact to their lives through our advocacy,” Dr. Escober said.
The said convention served as an avenue for various agencies and organizations to share and learn sustainable and environment-friendly practices in natural farming and organic agriculture, including various winning agri-technologies, innovations and marketing strategies.
