Being at the cutting edge of innovation, technology generation and social and educational development, research has been irrevocably playing significant role in today’s knowledge cultivation. Grounded on this fact, the Research and Development Unit conducted its 3rd virtual conference with the theme, Research and Development Across Disciplines: Transforming Knowledge through Technology Innovation and Practical Solutions held last September 22 - 24, 2021.
The keynote speech was given by Dr. Norvie Manigbas, Scientist II, and the chief Science Research Specialist of Plant Breeding and Biotechnology of Philippine Rice Research Institute during the first day. He spoke on the importance of research, the appropriate process of doing research and publication, as well as it significant contribution to society’s development especially in the field of agriculture.
Meanwhile, session speaker during the 2nd day was Dr. Rodney Perez, a recognized Outstanding Young Scientist in 2020, of the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) and the University Researcher of the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (BIOTECH) at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). He gave a talk on the topic, Microbial Science and Technology Researches and Its Practical Applications in the Philippine Setting.
The third day session speaker was Dr. Alvin Palanog of the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), who is also a Senior Science Research Specialist of the Philippine Rice Research Institute at PhilRice Negros, Murcia, Negros Occidental. He spoke on the topic, Salient Perspective in Breeding for High Zinc and Grain Yield in Rice.
Distinguished external panel of evaluators during the parallel sessions were Sir Acs Suñer, the supervising Science Research Specialist of the Philippine Rice Research Institute - Negros, in Murcia, Negros Occidental, Dr. Leo Andrew Biclar, the Research Director of Capiz State University in Roxas City, Capiz, Dr. Niel Ningal, the ASEAN technical consultant APAC Elanco - Nutritional Health based in Mandaluyong City, Philippines, Dr. Lanndon de Ocampo, Associate Professor of the Cebu Technological University - Main Campus at Palma St., Cebu City, Dr. Alvin Palanog of UPLB who was also a session speaker during the third day, and Dr. Ferdinand Bulusan, the Director for Research and Development, Extension and Training of Batanes State College in Basco, Batanes.
Paper presenters coming from various agencies, such as the Department of Education other state universities and colleges participated in the said conference.
During the parallel sessions, a total of 46 completed papers and 23 research proposals had been presented in the entire fold of the event distributed across categories, such as the Governance, Policy Studies, Social Sciences, Arts, Languages, Gender and Development, Basic and Teacher Education and Mathematics Category, an the Developmental Engineering and Information Technology Category, Natural and Biological, Biodiversity and Conservation Agriculture Category on the first and second day, and the Graduate School Research Category on the third day.
The said event was organized by the University Research and Development Unit headed by its Director, Dr. Angelie Rose Lumba and VP for Research and Extension Dr. Mae Flor Posadas, in collaboration with the Gender and Development Office headed by Sir Noel Dayono.
