The immediacy on the need to capacitate faculty members in the field of research has urged the University Research and Development Center headed by its director, Dr. Angelie Rose Lumba, to conduct a month-long virtual training-workshop on Research Capability Building from the month of November to December 2020. This is in partnership with Dr. Joel A. Perez, VP for Research and Extension.
Participants during this rigid and comprehensive activity were the CPSU system-wide personnel, undergraduate and graduate school (masters and doctorate) students of the University.
The series of trainings was composed of four sessions. The first session was on Intellectual Property Protection and Management Mentorship Series conducted last November 19-20, 2020. This was in collaboration with the CPSU Intellectual Property Management Office or IPMO headed by its director, Engr. Janet Serisola. Topics were an “Overview of IP System” discussed by Prof. Princess Lydia Fuentes, “Relevance of IP to Academe” by Prof. Mark Glenn Villamor, “Innovator Mindset” by Engr. Monalyn Oloroso, “Patents” by Engr. Julito Albaladejo, “Copyright” by Prof. Fuentes, and “Trademark” by Prof. Villamor. On the second day, the topics were “Invention Spotting” by Engr. Albaladejo, and “Patent Search Tools and Strategies” by Engr. Oloroso.
The second session was on Research Design Methods, Analysis, Interpretation and Presentation of Research Results conducted last November 24-25, 2020. The lecturer for this topic was Dr. Craig Refugio of Negros Oriental State University.
The third session held last December 8-9, 2020 focused on the topics, Introduction and Basic Concepts of Experimental Designs and Introduction to Hypothesis Testing and Completely Randomized Design. The Lecturer for this session was Prof. Mara Sherlin Talento of the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), University of the Philippines Los Baños.
The last session explained topics on Randomized Complete Block Designs and Latin Square Design, Correlation and Regression Analysis and ANACOVA. This was conducted last December 14-15, 2020 by Prof. Marie Joy Lopez-Relente also from the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), University of the Philippines Los Baños. Source: CPSU R and D
