To promote the diversification of crops and food security for national resilience, Central Philippines State University observed its February 2025 Convocation, which highlighted โAgricultural Diversity and Food Security,โ yesterday, February 24, 2025.
Cenphilians gathered at the Main Campus covered court for the event, which commenced with the traditional opening salvo, patriotic and civil service oaths, and the welcome remarks of Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) Dr. Fernando D. Abello.
Southeast Asia Regional Initiatives for Community Empowerment (SEARICE) Program Coordinator for Visayas, Ms. Olive H. Seruelo, shared her expertise and insights for the forefront of advocating for agricultural diversity and food securityโworking together with local and foreign farmers in identifying arising problems in agriculture and workable sustainable farming solutions.
In her resource speech, Ms. Seruelo also elaborated on agroecology and the significance of using sustainable farming methods and intentional diversification in agriculture to ensure the food security of the Philippines to ensure resilience amidst local and international turmoil; she also emphasized the need to capacitate farmers to actively engage in agricultural research through education.
In his message, VPAA Abello expressed how CPSU has been advocating for organic and sustainable agriculture, attested to by its partnerships with numerous Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) like SEARICE, who believe in the genuine heart shared by all levels of the university in leading the nation through life-changing technologies and innovation.
The CPSU Youth Christian Circle uplifted the attendees' hearts through their spirit-encouraging song dedicated to honoring the Almighty God and fostering spiritual resilience among Cenphilians.
The College of Agriculture and Forestry (CAF) led by Dr. Hanzel L. Pedrosa, successfully hosted the event with the support of the College of Agriculture and Forestry Federated Officers (CAFFO)โfacilitating the program that cascaded relevant and essential food for thought to the CPSU community.
