  • CPSU corn forum 2019 welcomes international delegates, participants and partner agencies

Highlighting on the unique opportunities to emphasize the significance of  forging linkages and partnerships that go for similar advocacy to address issues most crucial to corn farmers, Central Philippines State University through the Office of the Extension Services conducted a Corn Forum last September 25, 2019 at Mt. Ballo Hall, CPSU-Main Campus. Attendees were a diversification of stakeholders such as farmers, students, teachers, licensed agriculturists and international delegates on organic corn seed conservation.

Licensed agriculturists from Bohol, Laguna, Mindanao and Negros Island together with local and international farmers and students from Florentino Galang, Sr. National High School (FGSNHS), CPSU Bachelor of Science in Agriculture students and international student visitors coming from Monash University in Australia and New Castles University, as well as delegates from Myanmar, Vietnam and India attended the said event. Delegates engaged into competition of corn variety identification right after the Open Forum and food tasting of different menus that corn as the main ingredient.

The event aimed to give importance to corn as one of the staple foods of the Philippines, as well as to provide public knowledge on its health and economic   benefits. Further, this aimed to educate farmers and assess them on techniques and practices on corn cultivation.

The said Forum was organized by the Central Philippines State University through the Office of the Extension Services headed by Prof. Raymond C. Antonio, Director for Extension, in collaboration with the Magsasaka at Siyentipiko para sa Pag-unlad ng Agrikultura (MASIPAG) Inc., Paghidaet sa Kauswagan Development Group, (PDG) Inc., the Florentino Galang, Sr. National High School (FGSNHS) and the Kalibutan Society, Inc. with by the assistance of the Future Leaders of the Philippines Main-Campus headed by FLP President, Joemel A.
