Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) benchmarked at Central Philippines State University (CPSU) as they visited the Main Campus today, February 10.
CPSU officials and professors engaged with the Technical Teacher Education Department of ISAT U’s College of Education to share the university's best practices regarding extension and community services and teacher education services.
CPSU President, Dr. Aladino C. Moraca, received the ISAT U team and responded to the questions they raised about the developments in the university over the years, including his formula for providing students with quality infrastructure and facilities.
In addition, he also expounded on how CPSU has formed effective partnerships with the local farmer associations and the local community by extending the university’s resources as life-changing technologies to address the needs in the community, like water and clean energy.
“This benchmarking endeavor poses a big question to us: whether it is a fruition of CPSU’s performance in internationalization and technology generation. I think we are doing something commendable when it comes to these types of engagements; hence, we have the presence of our guests today,” said Dr. Aladino C. Moraca on his thoughts about the activity.
In addition, the CPSU College of Teacher Education (COTED) Dean, Dr. Merfe C. Hucalinas, and Professor Eleanor F. Castro also welcomed the visiting team to COTED’s conference room—interacting with the group and responding to their questions about the best practices of the college, which are instrumental in the awarding of Certificates of Program Compliance (COPCs) to its programs, and the consistent commendable Professional Regulation Commission (PRC)-administered board examination performances.
During the short conference, both teams from ISAT U and CPSU also discussed possible collaborative opportunities for both institutions to pool their best practices and to learn from their counterparts in education.
CPSU’s Extension and Community Services (ECS) Director, Dr. Jimmy O. Degillo, toured them to one of the university's income-generating projects—showcasing the organically grown sugarcane made into muscovado sugar as CPSU’s take reflecting Negros’ rich sugar industry, as well as the vermiculture that CPSU uses in growing its food products.
“On behalf of ISAT U and our President, Dr. Gabriel M. Salistre, the Vice Presidents, the Directors, and our Dean, Dr. Joel A. Ciriaco, we would like to say thank you very much for the warm accommodation here in CPSU-Kabankalan. We learned a lot from the insights of President Moraca, Dean of the College of Teacher Education, Dr. Hucalinas, and the officials,” said Dr. Noli Mandario, ISAT U’s Department Head of the Technical Teacher Education Department.
The group also met the university’s key officials, Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA), Dr. Fernando D. Abello, Vice President for Administration and Finance (VPAF), Engr. Marc Alexei Caesar B. Badajos, Office of Student Services and Affairs (OSSA) Dean, Dr. Aubrey Ginelle P. Rallos, and International Affairs Director, Dr. Joe-an Mae G. Escober.
ISAT U’s benchmarking team is scheduled to continue their benchmarking endeavor in more esteemed universities in the South of the Philippines over the next few days.
