To up-skill locals for more livelihood opportunities, Central Philippines State University's Office of Gender and Development (GAD) organized the Pandesal Bread and Avocado Ice Cream Making Workshop last July 3 and 4 at CPSU Main Campus’ Mini Hotel.
Residents from Barangay Binicuil, Kabankalan City and from the local communities within the CPSU reserve joined the two-day workshop, which also advocated value-adding on local root crops for enhanced marketability of products.
During the first day of the workshop, Sir Raffy D. Gabayoyo and second-year Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) students delivered a lecture on avocado ice cream processing; they then immediately followed up with hands-on training in the same process.
Additionally, Dean Shiela A. Ignacio and 2nd year BSHM students taught the participants via lecture and hands-on training on Pandesal Bread Making, innovatively incorporating the use of sweet potato flour substituting wheat flour.
The CPSU's GAD conducted the workshop in collaboration with the College of Hospitality Management, and the Extension and Community Services; these departments, respectively headed by Ma’am Shirley A. Calugcugan, Dean Shiela A. Ignacio, and Dr. Jimmy O. Degillo, ensured the success of the event.
University President Dr. Aladino C. Moraca welcomed the participants and expressed his hopes for the potential economic impact of the training, while University Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Fernando D. Abello encouraged the participants in using their newly gained knowledge and skills in invigorating the local economy further.
