November 20, 2023- in a vibrant celebration of literature and knowledge, the Central Philippines State University’s (CPSU) library commenced its National Book Week celebration with a spectacular opening program themed, “READ, REREAD, RELIVE.” The ceremony, held at the heart of the university campus, marked the start of a week-long tribute to the wonders of literature and the joy of reading.
Sir Julius R. Fetiluna, CPSU Librarian III, welcomed everyone and stated how the activity aimed to rekindle among students the love of reading, as well as encourage them to revisit cherished literary works, revive their love of writing stories, and accumulate knowledge through the pages of every book they read. As the celebration runs for the entire week, from November 20-24, 2023, it will showcase various activities and competitions for Cenphilian students to participate.
One of the highlights of the program is the
inspirational message of the invited speaker, Dr. Jimmy Degillo, Director for
Extension and Community Services stated how the program aimed to expand the
reach of the library and give access to students to different books.
“We encourage the students to stay in the library, and read books to further enhance your comprehension and vocabulary. Our CPSU-Library organized this event in response to the National Book Week to provide an opportunity for students to participate and take part in the different activities our institution’s library has prepared.”
Following the program was the reading of
guidelines and criteria for the various contests, and a raffle draw for
Cenphilian attendees who received tokens and gift packs.
Among the anticipated activities and
contests are as follows: Library Feud/ Game Ka Na Ba? Virtual orientation of
e-resources, books & e-journals, on the 2nd day, Story writing
and telling contest on the 3rd day, live trivia on the 4th
day, and Tiktok contest/Mini vlog (online). The fifth day will be the awarding
of winners.
Also, present in the program were Dr. Shiela A. Ignacio, Dean of the College of Business and Management (CBM), together with Ma’am Charity A. Vergara, CBM faculty, along with students from different departments.
The CPSU Library's 89th Book Week Celebration's opening program set the stage for a week of discovery, inspiration, and celebration, inviting everyone to embrace the joy of reading and relive the enchantment found within the pages of books.
