Former Department of Agriculture Secretary Mr. Leonardo Q. Montemayor and RU Foundry and Machine Corporation Chief Executive Officer Mr. Ramon Uy Sr. visited Central Philippines State University-Main Campus to observe the universityโs water crisis mitigation measures.
Mr. Leonardo Montemayor who is currently the Federation of Free Farmers (FFF) Board Chairman, was accompanied by FFF President Dioscoro S. Granada, and FFF National Manager Raul Montemayor last April 30, 2024.
When asked about their visitโs objectives, Mr. Granada answered, โOur visitโs objective is for us to witness the existing measures that farmers' associations and agriculture-inclined institutions like CPSU are implementing; what are its practices in linking their current knowledge with the livelihood of farmers and how they apply their knowledge to help our countrymen.โ
The groupโs university itinerary mainly included CPSUโs communal water stations in Crossing Kanding, Barangay Camingawanโthe water piping of which was funded by CPSU; they inquired about the El Niรฑo-inflicted adversities that the university, community, and farmers face as well as the interventions that the university initiated to mitigate its effects.
When asked about his first impression of CPSU, Mr. Granada added, โGood! Good because there are various activities and facilities linked with ordinary farmersโ livelihoods. We perceive that you are sharing good technologies that are helpful with the farmers apart from the academic activities that are transpiring; there is community involvement depicted by CPSUโs partnerships with different organizations to address current issues like the water crisis that we now face under these extreme temperatures.โ
The group tour to the said area as well as to other CPSU project sites was guided by faculty and staff from the Production and Enterprise Development Office (PEDO) and College of Agriculture and Forestry (CAF) led by PEDO Director Dr. Maryvic Pedrosa and CAF Dean Dr. Hanzel L. Pedrosa.
