The Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Central Philippines State University (CPSU) to collaborate on agricultural research and development and technological innovation in sugarcane farming.

MBCCI President Atty. Juliana B. Carbon and CPSU President Dr. Aladino C. Moraca represented and signed the MOA on behalf of their respective institutions to formalize the partnership during the signing ceremony at the CPSU Main Campus โ€“ Research, Development, and Extension Center Conference Room, on April 15, 2026.

Under the agreement, both institutions aim to revitalize the sugar industry in the Negros Island Region (NIR) through joint research undertakings, developing technological innovation, sharing financial resources, and extending advanced and developed technological assets and academic and intellectual property.

MBCCI aims to address the threats in the industry and to consequently prevent the reduction of sugar production and by-products, endangerment of industry profitability, and adverse effects on the peopleโ€™s livelihood in the region, through financial and technological support.

On the other hand, CPSU, being committed to generating and extending leading technologies in multidisciplinary areas to the community and in response to the challenge of furthering agricultural research for the realization of food security, is expected to extend its sugarcane farming and industry curriculum and its financial counterpart in the initiative.

Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) is a private non-stock and non-profit organization, engaged in the promotion of business and industries to generate employment, support enterprise development, and contribute to the economic growth of Negros Occidental and the country.

The partnership is a testament to the shared commitment of the MBCCI and CPSU in addressing the common concerns of grassroots farmers while strengthening the shared foundations of the regionโ€™s sugar industry.
