Tokyu University students, professor emeritus touch down at Cenphilian soil for educational tour

Tokyo University (U-Tokyo) students and professor emeritus has made a touch down at Central Philippine State University (CPSU)-Main Campus as part of their Philippine Educational tour last August 25, 2025.

 Under the supervision of the returning guest, U-Tokyo Professor Emeritus Dr. Toru Nakanishi, thirteen students were introduced to CPSU’s organic farming practices by key officials: College of Agriculture and Forestry (CAF) Dean Dr. Hanzel L. Pedrosa and Production and Enterprise Development Office (PEDO) Director Dr. Maryvic P. Pedrosa.

 CPSU showcased its muscovado production, where the U-Tokyo guests operated the sugarcane juice extraction machine using CPSU’s home-grown sugarcane stalks and took on the challenge of stirring the muscovado mixture during its cooking and post-cooking stages.

 The guests were further introduced to CPSU’s vermiculture technology and its application across the university’s campuses—showcasing CPSU’s commitment to organic farming and the repurposing of agricultural by-products such as bagasse and food waste like fruit peels into new products.

 The university also presented its green mining technology for sweet potatoes farming which has been replicated in CPSU’s partner communities and extension campuses.

 CPSU’s Pandayan ng Bayan facility also welcomed the guests and introduced them to the Pandayan ng Bayan Project which provides accessible farming repair tools among local farmers and has been replicated in five farmers’ associations across five Negros Occidental congressional districts through partnership with the RU Foundry and Machine Shop Corp., the Department of Science and Technology - Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (DOST - CEST), and other cooperating agencies.

 CPSU key officials highlighted replicability in local communities for livelihood opportunity generation as one of the rationale behind developed the university’s technologies as its contribution to the attainment of United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal No. 1: “No Poverty.”

 Professor Nakanishi also led thirteen U-Tokyo students on their previous CPSU visit on August 25, 2024, as part of their International Studies program which provide students with authentic and immersive learning experiences of the contemporary world.
