The training for chiffon cake baking, siakoy, and chorizo making, facilitated by the Gender and Development office (GAD), reached a productive denouement as the trainees, including women from local Kabankalan City communities and Cenphilian students, enjoyed their outputs.
The trainees reaped the fruits of their labor as they enjoyed their training outputsโsavoring the delicate taste of the cake, the variety of textures in the siakoy, and the garlicky, meaty taste of the chorizoโall of the ingredients for each session being freely provided and sponsored by the CPSU-GAD.
The two-day undertaking, which took place on April 27-28, 2026, at Central Philippines State University-Main Campus Mulberry Mini Hotel, was a free upskilling opportunity offered by the university to empower women and underprivileged students to engage in income-generating livelihood engagement.
Mr. Roland Celis from the Main Campus - College of Hospitality Management (CHM) gave a lecture on the ingredients of both chiffon cakes and siakoy, providing integral input on the actual baking and cooking process, while his students demonstrated the step-by-step procedures.
Mr. Emmanuel M. Salaza of CPSU-Victorias Campus also shared his expertise and taught the trainees on how to make garlic-flavored chorizo, conducting a pre-making lecture and demonstrating the actual procedures.
The trainees were from Barangays Binicuil, Camingawan, Eight, and Tagukon, and students from CPSUโs GAD Allies Organization were supervised by resource persons in applying their learning during the lectures and demonstrations in their hands-on practice.
CPSU-GAD Office Director Maโam Shirley A. Calugcugan welcomed the participants in the GAD-facilitated activity for community and student stakeholders of the university.
By providing trainees with free livelihood training programs, the office and the university CPSU GAD aim to support economic development through grassroots empowerment initiatives that beneficiaries can replicate in their local communities, designed with intentional consideration of accessibility and affordability of raw materials for feasibility and viability.
