The Negrense Youth Convergence 2025 provided a platform for resource speakers to elucidate ongoing government and non-government initiatives aimed at the attainment of various United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Highlighting the theme “Empowering Local Youth Action on Sustainable Development Goals,” the event sought to elevate youth awareness of SDGs’ significance and emphasized the importance of youth empowerment in SDG attainment—bolstering Philippine education, mass communication, food production, environment protection, livelihood generation, and technology development.
On behalf of Negros Occidental Sixth District Representative Hon. Congresswoman Mercedes "Chedeng" K. Alvarez, Sipalay City Board Member Hon. Genaro “Ralph” G. Alvarez IV conveyed an inspirational message to attendees of the event that was held at Central Philippines State University – Main Campus’ Clemente Sports Complex last August 29.
Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Assistant Provincial Director Ms. Galdy T. Reyes, and Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Negros Island Region (DENR-NIR) Head Executive Assistant Ms. Ma. Theresa R. Pialago discussed SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) and SDG 13 (Climate Action), respectively.
Meanwhile, CPSU Professor II Dr. Riza Stephanie G. Alfaras gave a talk on SDG 4 (Quality Education) and featured the university’s initiatives in providing excellent educational services for its students and partner communities.
Association of Negros Producers Head of External Affairs Ms. Sybel S. Nobleza and Brigada Mass Media Corporation (BMMC)—Visayas Area Manager Mr. Christian Jay Benta expounded on SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), respectively.
The Negrense Youth Convergence 2025 was organized by the Hope Builders Organization Negros Island Inc. in partnership with CPSU, 99.7 Brigada News FM Kabankalan, Provincial Youth Development Council, Local Youth Development Office – Kabankalan, CPSU – Office of Student Services and Affairs, CPSU – Supreme Student Government, and CPSU – Future Leaders of the Philippines.
