Hornbills bring medals home; Region VI clinches 1st runner-up trophy at NSCUAA 2025

Cenphilian athletes won bronze medals during the National State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (NSCUAA) Games 2025 at Camiguin.

 Garnering a total of 158 medals from 58 golds, 52 silvers and 48 bronzes, Western Visayas also placed a historic 1st Runner-Up in the national games where 7,500 athletes from state universities and colleges (SUCs) across the country gathered.

 Gee-M F. Bartolome won a bronze medal for the women’s 4x400m relay, and another bronze with Cris Jan V. Depamallo in the 4x400m mixed relay.

 Yca Shaneen S. Akol and Rowell A. Oreta clinched the 4th place for the Grade A – Latin American Category in Dancesports.

 Bartolome also placed 6th in the women’s 400m race, Depamallo placed 8th in the men’s 400m Low Hurdles, and Jesamie Hillacone secured 8th place in the women’s 800m run.

 Led by Sports Coordinator, Dr. Michael B. Bacolod, the Mighty Hornbills represented the university in the NSCUAA Games 2025 last April 23–27 hosted by the Camiguin Polytechnic State College.

 Here are the athletes and coaches who constituted CPSU’s NSCUAA 2025 delegation:

2.      Basketball (Women - 3x3) – Jennifer I. Arita, Jonamae K. Camancho, Aljane R. Dela Peña, & Krizzia Lea L. Gilvero (Coached by Mr. Gefferson Cagbay)

3.      Dancesports (Latin American Category) – Yca Shaneen S. Akol & Rowell A. Oreta (Coached by Ms. Loraine Benjamen)

4.      Athletics (Men) - Cris Jan V. Depamallo (Coached by Aladin M. Flores Jr.)

5.      Athletics (Women) – Jesamie P. Hillacone (Coached by Aladin M. Flores Jr.)

6.      Swimming (Men) – John Gera Bernales

 

Despite the odds and hurdles, Cenphilian athletes overcame adversities with resilience and stood tall among the country’s finest collegiate athletes—carrying Cenphilian virtues and sportsmanship in celebrating community, camaraderie, and oneness through sports and athletics.

 CPSU relays its warmest congratulations to our NSCUAA delegation who spread our green and yellow-ornated banner high.
