CPSU hosts International Youth Congress

As the University heads towards internationalization, it is anticipated to widen the network of linkages, and opportunities it would render with academic and economic impacts to the whole CPSU community.

Working towards the said direction, Central Philippines State University hosted the International Youth Congress last September 27 -29, 2019, The University served as the venue for the 1st International Agro- Ecology Youth Congress with its theme “Today’s Youth for Agro Ecology”. 

The said event was organized through the collaboration of various Universities and Organizations such as the Monash University in Australia, New Castles University, Kalibutan Society Incorporation, MASIPAG, Central Philippines State University, Florentino Galang, Sr. National High School and the Future Leaders of the Philippines. 

The first day was the arrival of delegates from Myanmar, Vietnam and India, as well as participants coming from University of the Philippines Diliman, Bohol Lumad School, students from FGSNHS, CPSU SSG and FLP officers, Kabankalan Catholic College, and Binalbagan Catholic College.

The event was fulfilled with aspiring words from different heads and supervisors. Dr. Joel A. Perez, the VP for Research and Extension, warmly welcomed everyone and declared the formal opening of the Corn Festival. Also, delegates were given time to express their gratitude and words of expectation for the entire event. 

International visitors were likewise immersed in the fun and unique Filipino “Budol Fight” luncheon experience with various menu utilizing corn as the main ingredient. 

The activity continued in the afternoon with the presentation and palatability test of corn varieties and indigenous by-products and delicacies made by the Kalibutan Society and MASIPAG. Also, there was a focus group discussion on the #Climatejusticenow, an evaluation and strategic planning for agro-ecology action. The event was also inspired by the talk of Ma’am Cecilia D. Abello, School Divisions Officer of Kabankalan City. 

For the second day of the event, delegates had their tour at the Kalibutan Society Farm where they learned on how to make piaya, squash malunggay (horse raddish), pancit and mascuvado sugar. The team was also tourred to the Cabugan Cave located in Brgy. Tagukon. 

In the evening was the “Galang’s Night” where students of FGSNHS were loudly applauded as they showcased their talents that entertained everyone and brought pride to their Alma mater.

 On the third day, July 29,2019, delegates had their tour inside the University, from the Horticulture garden, to the Moscuvado center, Vo-ag CPSU Lagoon and the twin cave. In the evening they witnessed the talents of the Cenphilians during the “CPSU Night” as the Balangaw Dancers lively performed for the delegates and participants. A “Bayle” or disco throughout the night made their experience more memorable.

Also present during the said event were Hon. Pedro P. Zayco, the Kabankalan City Mayor, Sir Jolly Gariando, the Principal of FGSNHS, Dr. Aladino C. Moraca, the CPSU, President and Dr. Fernando D. Abello, the VP for Academic Affairs.
